iPhone OS 4, the Preview.

iPhone OS 4

  • iPhone OS 4 is scheduled to ship Summer 2010.
  • Digital Zoom (Nexus One has that.)
  • Home Screen Wallpaper (Jail-broken iPhone has that for almost 3 years.)
  • Bluetooth Keyboard (long overdue.)
  • Multitasking (WOW, finally. Well, it’s multitasking the Steve Jobs way.)
  • “Local” Push Notifications – no longer needs Apple Servers.
  • Folders (Consolidating Apps in the same folder.)
  • Enhanced Mail App (Unified folders, multiple Exchange account.)
  • iBooks Support (this is not a surprise.)
  • Enterprise features (you lost me there, Scott. Wait, I’m just bored.)
  • Game Center (Apple is really gunning for this one.)
  • iAd (Apple is taking a swipe at Google. In App in stead of Search.)
  • HTML5 (Sorry Flash.)
  • Apple to iPhone, iPhone 3G and 1st Gen iPod touch: “No Multi-Tasking for you!”)
  • Developers get their hands on the preview TODAY!
  • iPhone OS 4 ships for iPad in Fall 2010.
  • iPhone OS 4 for iPhone and iPod touch ships in Summer 2010.
iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
